Student Loans

As the cost of education rises, it becomes increasingly difficult to finance. To make it easier to meet the expense of higher learning, we offer an attractive educational loan program.

Consolidation Loans allow you to combine existing federal student loans with The University of Nebraska Federal Credit Union and/or multiple lenders into a convenient fixed rate loan.

Subsidized Federal Stafford Loans are available to both dependent and independent undergraduate, graduate and professional students. It is called a subsidized loan because the government pays the interest on the loan while the student's status is "in school", "grace" or "deferment". Payments can be deferred until after graduation or dropping below half-time.

Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loans are available to both dependent and independent undergraduate, graduate and professional students. The government does not pay interest on this loan at any time. The student is solely responsible for the interest, but can request to have interest and payments deferred until after graduation or dropping below half-time. In certain cases, students qualify for both subsidized and unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loans.

Federal PLUS Loans are for covering college expenses and are available to parents or stepparents of dependent undergraduate students. These loans are not based on financial need. Students must go through the FAFSA process before their parent can receive this loan; parents' information is requested on the student's FAFSA.
