Phishing
Phishing incidents have increased dramatically in the past year. Phishers use the Internet to steal money and personal identities. Victims usually receive fraudulent e-mails containing authentic looking company logos and graphics and are asked to divulge financial information.
Check Scams
The scam we are seeing most often is a fake check scam.There are many variations of the fake check scam, but the common thread is a stranger proposing to send the victim a check and have the victim wire money in return. It may start with someone offering to buy something you advertised for sale.
Bogus Credit Card Offers
It is more convienient to use credit cards than cash or checks, especially for large purchases. But beware because some companies that offer to help you get a credit card may intend to steal your money instead.
Prize And Sweepstakes Scams
These scams are designed to make victims think they've won a car, valuable jewelry, cash or trips. They often look and sound very legitimate.
